About the Author

Meet Author Dr. John Lenss

Dr. John Lenss, author of SUCCESSES TREATING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER, lives in a suburb of the Twin Cities in Minnesota with his wife of over 40 years. Their children and grandchildren live nearby. When he’s not working, Dr. Lenss likes to spend time with his family, ride his bicycle on the Mississippi River trails, or volunteer with various Christian ministries in the area.

Street Ministry & Drug Addiction

John Lenss became a born-again Christian in 2011. He was discipled by several street ministries in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. These ministries focused on people experiencing homelessness and the daily challenges they faced, such as various drug addictions. The encounters on the streets while working with the homeless led John to earn an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling. John’s counseling degree helps him better understand how to assist those with substance abuse disorder.

Writing About Substance Abuse Disorder

During the COVID pandemic, a few years after working with ministries serving the homeless, John felt a call to pursue a doctorate in Christian Leadership. His doctorate became the basis for authoring his book about substance abuse treatment, SUCCESSES TREATING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER.

Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge

Most psychologists agree that addictions are not curable, but they can be treated. Most programs use a variation of substitution therapy. Some describe it as substituting one vice for another. Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge in Minneapolis substitutes Jesus for whatever the vice may be.
